Scandinavian Seaman's Church

In the nineteenth and early twentieth century Liverpool was the major European port of embarkation for Scandinavians seeking a new future in America and elsewhere. The scale of the Scandinavian emigration particularly from the 1850's to the outbreak of the First World War was unprecedented. The Gustaf Adolfs Kyrka was initially built in 1883 - 1884 in order to reply to the requirements of both seafarers and emigrants.
